Sydney: David Warner has been named captain of Sydney Thunder for the Big Bash League (BBL 14) season after his leadership ban was lifted by an independent review panel last month.
The experienced lefthander, who once captained the Thunder in 2011, replaced Chris Green as captain, although the latter remains a part of the team as a player.
Being the founding captain for the Thunder, Warner expressed his excitement about the role and his commitment to shaping the next generation of the team.
“It means a lot to me to captain the Thunder again this season,” he said in a statement. I was part of the team from the beginning, and now it feels great to be back with that 'C' next to my name. I look forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talents.”
“Leadership off the field is equally important. I want to create an environment where we can all take a break from the game, connect with each other and enjoy ourselves. Whether it's having a meal with the team, “Whether it’s out on the golf course or meeting our fans in Western Sydney, it’s all about building camaraderie and staying down to earth.”
Reflecting on past captains, Warner acknowledged the influence of former captains on the team:
“I want to appreciate the way Greenie (Chris Green) leads. He's an exceptionally talented player with great leadership qualities. Jason Sangha too before his injury. I got a lot of good information from both of them, and I know That they're players I can count on this season.”
Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland said Warner's appointment was a big deal for the club. “Appointing David Warner as captain is not just about winning, it is about preparing our young players for success, providing them with leadership on and off the field.
“In bringing in leaders like David and Sam Billings for a full season, along with Chris Green, Jason Sangha and many others from start to finish, we are building a foundation that will allow our young talent to learn and grow.” Empowers for.”
The Thunder begin their season when they face the Adelaide Strikers in Canberra on 17 December.
