New Delhi. Whatever the format, the condition of the Pakistani cricket team is very bad these days. The former cricketer of this team, who used to boast a lot, has shown them the mirror. Babar's army is being ridiculed especially after the recent humiliation in the home Test series against Bangladesh.
Former Pakistan legspinner Danish Kaneria has strongly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Pakistani team after the humiliating defeat in the Test series against Bangladesh.
This was Pakistan's first Test series defeat to Bangladesh and Kaneria expressed his displeasure by even saying that “even the neighbourhood team can play better than them.”
In the twomatch series, Bangladesh registered a spectacular victory by 10 wickets in the first Test. Whereas, in the second Test, Bangladesh achieved the target of 185 runs with 6 wickets in hand, which is the thirdhighest run chase by a visiting team on Pakistani soil. This defeat raised many questions about the future of the team under the captaincy of Babar Azam.
In an interview with , Kaneria heavily criticized the Pakistani team.
He said, “The level of Pakistan cricket team is so low that even the neighbourhood team is better than them and PCB is responsible for their condition.
“He is the one to blame for such a poor performance by the team. The shuffling of the captaincy and the PCB chairman's chair is disappointing. He highlights the gap between leadership and performance on the field.”
Kaneria also said that it was a wrong decision of the PCB to appoint Babar Azam as the captain in place of former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sarfaraz led Pakistan to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 and was performing well in all formats.
Kaneria said, “I don't know why Babar Azam was given the responsibility of leadership despite the good captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed. Currently there is no one in the Pakistan team who is worthy of becoming the captain. The captain is the one who takes the pressure on his shoulders and takes the team forward with his performance, which both Babar and Shan Masood have failed to do.
The former Pakistani cricketer, while comparing Pakistan and its archrival India, stressed that Indian players have consistently performed well when needed and have created a worldclass team.
