'Believe in yourself, chase your dreams': Paralympic gold medalist Nitesh Kumar

New Delhi . Paris Paralympic gold medalist parashuttler Nitish Kumar, who studied at Navy Children's School in Vizag, has thanked the school and credited them as they encouraged him “during his toughest times”.

“I am happy to share that I have recently won the gold medal in Para Badminton at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. It is a proud achievement and I believe that the NCS family will be there to cheer me on during my toughest times. Can be a partner in success.

Nitish said, “I joined school after my accident and I can't tell you how much everyone supported me, especially my principal and chemistry teacher. At that time I was not interested in sports, but I got a lot of support from my school.” I remember the incredible sporting culture at that time and it was very encouraging to see my NCS community supporting me during the Paralympics and I am happy that I could do something big for the country.”

In the final of badminton men's singles SL3 category, Nitish won the gold medal by defeating Daniel Bethel of Britain with the scoreline of 2114, 1821, 2321.

India won five medals – one gold, two silver and two bronze, the country's most in any edition of the Paralympic Games, and secured a podium finish in the women's events for the first time at the recently concluded event in Paris.

Nikita Tomar Mann, who headed NCS Vizag from 20102016 when Kumar was there. She is now Principal of Indraprastha Global School in Noida, said “It is the greatest satisfaction for me as a teacher, when a student who has achieved something extraordinary remembers how small a part I played in his success. This feeling cannot be compared with anything else in the world.”
