Batsman Musheer Khan suffers injuries to neck, arms and legs in car accident; Likely to be out of the rest of the season

New Delhi . Mumbai batsman Musheer Khan's SUV met with an accident on Friday night while going from Azamgarh to Lucknow, resulting in injuries to his neck, arms and legs. The 19yearold Musheer is undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow and is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Indian batsman Sarfaraz Khan's brother Musheer was also in the car along with his father and coach Naushan Khan and Naushan Khan also suffered minor injuries in the accident. A Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) source said the car lost control at high speed and overturned several times on the road.

Doctors are waiting for the scan report to confirm whether he has a neck fracture or not and how serious it is.

An MCA source told , “Mushir is likely to be out of action this season. His Fortuner car overturned multiple times in a highspeed accident while traveling from Lucknow to Azamgarh, resulting in injuries to his neck and limbs. He has been admitted to hospital. After that he will have to undergo rehabilitation, which means he will be able to play only after six to seven months. Musheer is currently undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow.

Musheer, who was training with his father in Azamgarh, was due to join his teammates in Lucknow for the Irani Cup match against Rest of India at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium from October 1.

MCA officials are also unhappy with Musheer's decision to train in Azamgarh after the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy matches and not join his home team in Mumbai.

Musheer last played for India B in the Duleep Trophy, making his debut in the tournament against India A in Bengaluru earlier this month. He scored 181 runs in his debut match, but he could not do such wonders in the remaining matches of the tournament.

Musheer, one of India's most successful players in the 2024 Under19 World Cup, made a strong comeback in the Ranji Trophy in February. Nearly two years later, in his debut match for Mumbai, he scored his maiden firstclass double century and later scored a century in the second innings in the Ranji final against Vidarbha, helping Mumbai win a record 42nd Ranji title.

Musheer has scored 716 runs in nine firstclass matches at an average of over 50, which includes three centuries and one halfcentury.

Meanwhile, MCA is yet to announce any replacement for the batsman. The MCA is hopeful that Sarfaraz Khan, who is still in Kanpur with the Indian team but is not in the playing eleven for the second Test against Bangladesh, will join the squad.
