Australian wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis broke records by scoring a brash 103 off just 49 balls against Scotland in the second T20I of the series. Inglis came in to bat at number 3 and sent the ball flying all over the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh to score his second T20I century. However, he achieved two other special achievements in reaching his hundred. On the one hand, he broke his own record and on the other, he became the first Australian wicket-keeper batsman to do so.

Inglis reached his century against Scotland in just 43 balls, making it the fastest-ever century by an Australian in T20I cricket. Remarkably, Inglis' maiden century (against India in November 2023) was the previous fastest century by an Australian in T20I. The previous best hundred in 47 balls had been scored by Inglis, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch.

However, Inglis had more to add to the record books. The 29-year-old scored the first-ever T20I hundred by a designated batsman as an Australian wicket-keeper. It is important to note that Inglis was not the designated batsman as a wicket-keeper when he scored his maiden hundred against India as Matthew Wade was the Australian wicket-keeper in that match.

Preparing for the England series

Australia's three-match T20I tour of Scotland is serving as a warm-up for the upcoming series against England, against whom they will play three T20Is and five ODIs, starting on September 11.

Scotland, who came close to qualifying for the Super 8 phase of the 2024 T20 World Cup ahead of Australia and England, have been unable to match Australia in this home series.

After chasing a target of 155 in less than 10 overs in the first T20I, Australia easily prevailed by 70 runs in the second. Even though no other batsman contributed significantly, Inglis' lightning-quick knock was enough to guide Australia to a convincing total of 196.
