Chandigarh. The first two matches of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh National Polo Trophy being played at the Chandigarh Polo Club, Khuda Lahore under the Indian Polo Association (IPA) were held in which the Army Service Corps and Rajasthan Polo Club won their respective matches.
Army Service Corps (ACS) made a great start to the tournament by defeating Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club (HPRC) 84.5. The victory was in the name of Constable Mukesh Gurjar of Supply Corps, who scored four excellent goals, while Constable Ravinder Mang definitely won the match by scoring three goals. Major Karamat Ali scored a goal. Salim Azmi scored maximum three goals for HPRC.
Earlier, Rajasthan Polo Club (RPC) defeated host Chandigarh Polo Club (CPC) 12.5 – 4. Colonel Manoj Diwan gave a great start to Chandigarh by scoring a goal in one and a half minutes of the first round. In the same round, Chandigarh's Jitendra Singh got injured, which dealt a big blow to the host team. RPC made a comeback in the match in the second round with the trio of Shubham Gupta, Alan Shoan Michael and Yuvraj Singh Ranaut performing brilliantly. At the end of the second round, RPS looked in a strong position with a score line of 93. Despite the best efforts of Dilpreet Sidhu and Colonel Diwan, CPC appeared to be on the back foot and lost the match by 12.5 – 4 after the third and final round. Shubham Gupta scored maximum eight goals while Allen scored four goals. Colonel Diwan scored three goals for CPC.
General Zorawar Singh Trophy matches will also be organized for Young Riders from Tuesday in which the teams of Chandigarh and Panchkula will face each other. On the other hand, the first match for Maharaja Ranjit Singh Trophy will be between Remount and Veterinary Corps and 61 Cavalry. The second match of the same category will be between Army Service Corps and Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club.
