Barbados. Following the 21 win in the threematch series between West Indies and England, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been suspended for two matches following his heated onfield altercation with team captain Shai Hope.
The incident occurred during the third ODI in Barbados, in which Joseph expressed anger while leaving the field. Cricket West Indies announced the suspension on Thursday, saying that Joseph's behavior was below the team's expectations.
After the match, Joseph issued a statement through Cricket West Indies, in which he admitted his mistake and apologized to the captain, teammates, management and fans. He said, “I have personally apologized to captain Shai Hope and my teammates. I also apologize to the West Indies fans. I understand that a small mistake can have a big impact and I am deeply regretful about this.” Deeply regret that I disappointed anyone.”
This situation happened in the fourth over of the match at Kensington Oval, when Joseph was already looking worried about the fielding position. He took a wicket in a brilliant over, but after a conversation with captain Hope, he angrily left the field without informing anyone and went to the dressing room, due to which the team was playing with ten players for some time.
However, Joseph returned after some time and also bowled later. West Indies won the match by eight wickets and won the series against England 21.
West Indies head coach Darren Sammy described Joseph's actions as “unacceptable” after the match and expressed his disappointment.
Sammy said, “Such behavior is unacceptable on my cricket field. We are friends, but this kind of behavior is not acceptable in the culture I promote. We will definitely talk about this.”
West Indies Cricket Board's Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, has also strongly condemned the player's indiscipline. He said that such behavior will not be tolerated. The board has warned the players to follow discipline while representing West Indies at the international level.
Due to this indiscipline, the player has been suspended for two matches. He will not be able to play in the first two matches of the fivematch T20 series against England.
