Whatsapp and its parent company Meta have been given great relief by a tribunal court. It has decided to remove the 5 -year ban on the social media company. The ban on Mark Zuckerberg's company and other platforms of Meta has been removed for some time on user data sharing. In November last year, the CCI imposed this ban on meta and WhatsApp. It was challenged in court by the social media platform.
In November last year, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) banned the sharing of user data on other platforms of Mata on WhatsApp. The CCI also warned the company to roll some of its features. Also, it was said that WhatsApp user's data should not be done for any other platform of meta such as Instagram and advertisement practice on Facebook. While hearing in this regard, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal Court has directed to lift the 5 -year ban imposed by CCI. However, the hearing of this case in the court will continue.
Business model damage
The special court said that this ban could harm WhatsApp business models. India is a big market for META. There are more than 350 million users on Facebook or 25 crore on Facebook. At the same time, the number of WhatsApp users is more than 500 million i.e. more than 50 crores. In such a situation, this ban can harm the company's business model.
WhatsApp's parent company Meta had earlier said in the tribunal that it would either stop some features of the app or roll it back. With the removal of this ban, users will get permission to show personalized ads related to it on Facebook and Instagram based on the interaction on WhatsApp.
