Today, most mobile users use two SIM cards. Since recharge plans will become expensive from July 2025, sometimes it becomes very difficult to recharge two numbers. Even though we use a SIM card a lot, many times we have to recharge the number due to the fear that the number might get deactivated. If you also have a similar fear, then let us tell you that you can keep the SIM active for many months even without recharging the number.
Relief from continuous recharging
Often people keep a secondary SIM only to fulfill their specific needs. Therefore, to prevent the number from getting disconnected or switched off, keep recharging it. But since recharge plans have become expensive, it has become a bit difficult to spend money on secondary SIM. However, the rules of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India have given great relief to crores of users of Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL. At the same time, TRAI's rules have also freed mobile users from the hassle of frequent expensive recharges.
TRAI's rule gave big relief
In fact, many people recharge their numbers as soon as the recharge plan ends due to the fear that their number might get disconnected and the number might be transferred to someone else. If you also want to avoid the tension of instant recharge, then let us tell you that according to TRAI Mobile Users Consumer Handbook, your SIM remains active for 90 days after the recharge is over.
That means your number remains active for about 3 months after the recharge is over.
SIM will remain active for 120 days after spending Rs 20
According to TRAI rules, if your number remains inactive for 90 days and there is a prepaid balance of Rs 20, then the company will deduct your Rs 20 and extend the validity by 30 days. Meaning your number can remain active for a total of 120 days. In this way, if you keep a secondary SIM, then after maintaining a balance of Rs 20 in it, you can keep the SIM card active for 120 days after the recharge is over.
There is a grace period of 15 days
According to TRAI, after these 120 days, SIM card users are given 15 days to reactivate their number. However, if a user does not activate his number even within these 15 days, then his number will be completely deactivated and then that number will be transferred to another person.
