Safety tips for room heater: To avoid cold during winter days, room heaters are used in most of the houses. Room heaters help in avoiding cold but if not used properly, they can also prove fatal. Many cases of death have been reported due to the use of room heaters. Recently, a case came to light in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh in which the body of an 86-year-old woman was found in her bedroom. Upon investigation, it was found that the woman had switched on the room heater at night and had slept with it on. The poisonous carbon monoxide gas coming out of the heater is believed to be the cause of his death.
In most of the houses, people use heater or blower inside the room. Room heaters heat the room quickly but sometimes they also prove to be extremely dangerous. If you use them for a long time, they can even kill you. If you have also started using a room heater, it is important to keep some things in mind.
Keep these things in mind while using room heater
- Never use a heater or blower in a closed room. Due to the room being closed, carbon monoxide starts accumulating in it. It is a poisonous gas which does not have any kind of smell. Because of this, its accumulation cannot even be estimated. Do not close the windows completely while using the heater.
- Many people keep the heater very close to the cot or bed. Never make this kind of mistake. There is a risk of the bed catching fire due to its proximity to the bed.
- Keep the heater or blower at the right distance. Let us tell you that there is a fan behind the heater or blower which keeps its operation cool. If you keep it too close to the wall, it does not get space and this can cause it to get damaged quickly.
- Never keep plastic items, polythene or any kind of flammable material near the heater.
- If anyone in your house has asthma or any other respiratory disease, then never use a heater in their room.
