The government has drafted a new policy to regulate OTT. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs L Murugan has announced this on Wednesday, October 23. The Union Minister of State has sent the drafted policy on OTT for feedback and public input. After receiving feedback, the policy regarding content to be shown or broadcast on OTT will be presented in Parliament. There has been talk of regulating OTT for a long time. Questions have been raised many times regarding the existing self-regulatory guidelines for OTT.

Many complaints received regarding OTT

The Union Minister of State said that in the current self-regulatory guidelines, OTT service providers only write a disclaimer for the content shown that this content is for mature viewers or that parental guidance should be taken if necessary. Despite these necessary steps, a large number of complaints have been received regarding the content shown on OTT.

Many complainants have stated that many OTT platforms continuously violate the guidelines, in view of which the government has decided to formulate a systematic policy to regulate the content shown on OTT, to ensure that OTTs But no objectionable things can be displayed. For this, feedback is being taken from the industry, so that the stakeholders and the audience can be taken into consideration.

News will be broadcast on private FM

Apart from this, the government is also considering giving permits to private FM channels to run news bulletins. At present, news is broadcast only on the government radio channel Akashvani i.e. All India Radio. After getting permission from private FM radio channels, they will also be able to broadcast news. For this also, feedback is being taken from representatives associated with the industry.
