Meta has prepared to add thousands of users simultaneously on Facebook and Instagram. These will not be ordinary users, but Meta's AI chatbots. These AI users of Meta will be like regular Facebook and Instagram users and will post on these platforms like them. This decision of Meta has been taken to monitor the content posted on both these platforms. The company is going to add AI users on both its social platforms in July this year.
Emphasis on AI
According to the Financial Times report, Meta is going to integrate AI accounts on its social platforms in different ways. Features like AI writing tools, AI chatbot, AI avatar, AI influencer can be seen in Meta's social media apps. Connor Hayes, Meta's president of generative AI products, said the use of AI users is part of the company's next strategy.
Challenge from TikTok and X
Hayes said Meta has a priority project to make its platform “more entertaining and engaging” due to increasing competition from TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). The company decided that adding more AI tools and these AI characters could boost engagement and interactions on the Meta-owned social media app.
There may be negative effects
However, experts have also reportedly highlighted several negative consequences of Meta's move. One such concern is the risk of spreading misinformation, which could have a snowball effect given the large number of AI accounts that are all operated by hallucination AI models.
At the same time, the second concern of experts is that there has been a flood of negative content on this platform, because the current generation of AI models lacks true creativity. If the overall quality of content decreases, it may also drive users away from Facebook and Instagram.
