The round of layoffs has started once again in Mark Zuckerberg's company Meta. The leading social media company has fired many employees of WhatsApp and Instagram. At the end of last year also the company had laid off thousands of employees. Looking at the massive layoffs taking place at Facebook's affiliates, it seems that layoffs are about to begin in tech companies once again.
Retrenchment of employees started
According to The Verge report, Meta has laid off employees of instant messaging app WhatsApp, photo and video sharing platform Insatgram and Reality Labs. According to the report, the company is making changes in its organizational structure, due to which changes are being made in some teams. This layoff of Meta is limited to some teams only.
However, the retrenched employees have not come forward yet. An employee Jane Machun Wong said on the social media platform, 'I am still in the process but I have received information that my role in Meta has been affected. Thank you to all of you, especially my Threads and Instagram colleagues, who have been on this journey with me in Meta.

Meta confirmed to The Verge that the decision to allocate resources has been taken keeping in mind the company's long-term strategy, goals and location strategy. However, the company has claimed that we are working hard to create other opportunities for the affected employees.

Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Meta had laid off about 11,000 employees in 2022. In the next year i.e. 2023, Meta had shown the way out to 10,000 employees. Apart from Meta, other tech companies Google, Microsoft and Amazon also laid off thousands of employees.
