The Indian telecom market has become the fastest growing market in the world. At present, the number of mobile users in India has reached 117 crores, which was 90 crores 10 years ago. Most of these users are using smartphones. Due to the advent of smartphones, the number of internet users has also increased. At the same time, broadband connectivity is being provided to every corner of the country. The number of internet users has also increased from 6 crores to 95 crores. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has shared this information about the development of telecom infrastructure and future plans in India on the completion of 100 days of Modi 3.0.
There are 117 crore mobile users in the country
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a press conference, “There used to be 90 crore mobile connections in the country, today there are about 117 crore mobile connections. India has emerged on the world stage as a leading telecom market… and along with that, the internet connectivity of about 25 crore people has increased from 25 crore people to about 95 crore people today.”
Internet reached every home
Speaking further on internet penetration, the Union Minister said, “Broadband connectivity is a sub-section of internet connectivity and the availability of broadband connectivity which was limited to only 6 crore people, today that number has increased from 6 crore to nearly 94 crore people, so today the lack of opportunities which used to exist… between rural and urban areas, among people… the work of providing those opportunities to each and every citizen of the country through telecommunication and broadband connectivity has been done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in the last 10 years.”
Preparation for 100 percent 4G saturation
The Telecom Minister further said, “We have to ensure 100% 4G saturation in the country and we are happy to report to you that in the 100 days of Modi 3.0 till September 15, we have installed 7,258 new mobile towers in every corner of the country, based on which mobile connectivity has been provided in 9,560 villages today. I am talking about only 100 days.”
He further said, “Today, to ensure 100% saturation in the country, we need to install approximately 27,648 towers and out of that, we have commissioned 7,258 towers in just 100 days. Out of the total 6.5 lakh villages that remain, there are 36,421 villages in the country where telecom services are still needed and this includes vibrant villages and out of those, telecom services have been fully available in 9,560 villages in 100 days.”
