TikTok is one of the most popular social media apps in the world. This app has about 2 billion monthly active users. After Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp, it is the most used platform in the world. Giving a big relief to TikTok, US President Donald Trump has given an extension of 75 days to the sword of ban hanging on it. On January 19, TikTok was removed from Google and Apple App Store. However, after Trump's assurance, the services of this app were restored again.
Launched in 2016
Apart from America, Tik-Tok is known as the most popular app among the youth in many countries of the world. In China, this app was launched in September 2016 under the name of Douyin. Within just 200 days of its launch, this app had crossed the figure of more than 100 million users. At present, this app has about 748 million i.e. about 75 crore daily active users in China. TikTok's parent company Bytedance launched this app in the international market under the name of TikTok in September 2017.
In 2018, Byte Dance had decided to merge the music video sharing platform Musical.ly with TikTok with this app. After this it became famous worldwide as a short video sharing platform. In 2020, it was banned in India due to violation of IT Act 69A. Before it was banned, it had about 190 million i.e. 19 crore monthly active users in India. India was the world's largest market for this Chinese platform.
