Amidst increasing cyber crime, the government has issued a new warning for more than 120 crore mobile users of the country. The government has issued this warning regarding calls coming from international numbers. The Department of Telecommunications has instructed users not to attend calls coming from these numbers. Also, users have been asked to report such calls on the Chakshu portal of the Department of Telecommunications.
Do not pick up calls from these numbers
DoT has shared information about these international numbers through its official X handle. In its post, the Department of Telecommunications has warned users to avoid international fraud calls and said that one should stop and think before attending such calls. These days, users are receiving fake international calls from numbers like +77, +89, +85, +86, +87, +84 etc. Department of Telecommunications or TRAI does not make such calls. Users should report such calls on Chakshu portal.
Calls coming from such international numbers are internet generated, that is, they are made through the internet. Hackers call users from these numbers and pretend to be officials of TRAI or DoT and ask users to disconnect their connection and cheat them by luring them into their trap.
Report immediately to Chakshu
The government launched the Chakshu portal a few months ago, through which users can report fake calls coming on their phones. After reporting on the portal, the government blacklists those numbers. If you are also receiving calls from these international numbers on your phone, do not pick them up and report them on the Chakshu portal.
The Department of Telecommunications has implemented new rules to curb the increasing cyber fraud in India. To ensure that fake or spam calls are not received on phones from October 1, telecom companies have been instructed to implement the new DLT system. Also, the message traceability rule is going to come into effect from December 11. After this, the messages sent by cyber criminals can be easily tracked.
Information – TRAI gave big relief to Airtel, Jio, BSNL and Vi, now the new rule of message traceability will be implemented from this day.
