To stop the increasing incidents of cyber fraud, the government has issued a new national helpline number. The Home Ministry has changed the national helpline number 155260 to 1930. The Department of Telecommunications has shared the information about this new helpline number through its official X handle. This helpline number will especially help those people who have been subjected to any kind of financial fraud. Apart from this, you can also complain about this on the National Cyber Crime Portal.
This initiative launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Indian Cyber Crime Co-ordination Center (I4C) exemplifies the commitment to provide secure digital payment systems for Indian citizens. People who are victims of cyber fraud can call this 4 digit helpline number anytime. This helpline number is operated by the respective state police.
Those who commit fraud are in trouble now
On the complaint made on this number, details related to cyber fraud will be taken and a ticket will be issued on the Fraud Reporting and Management System. After this, it will be sent to the concerned bank, wallet or merchant, so that the fraudulent amount can be frozen. Once the amount is frozen, cyber criminals will not be able to use this amount. Even if this amount has been transferred to the fraudster's bank, this process will continue until the money is recovered.
The national helpline number has been developed in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all public and private sector banks and online wallets. With the helpline number, even those people who are not able to use the internet will be able to report cyber crime. Also, one will not have to visit the police station to report cyber crime.
In view of the increasing incidents of cyber crimes in the country, the Home Ministry and I4C are keeping a close watch. Besides, citizens are also being educated to make them aware of cyber crime. This new 4 digit helpline number issued by the government can be used for any kind of cyber crime.
