The entry of Elon Musk's satellite broadband Starlink in India is almost confirmed. The telecom regulator is soon going to start allocating spectrum for satellite internet service. Apart from Starlink, Jio Satcom, Airtel OneWeb and Amazon Kuiper are in the race to launch satellite broadband service in India. Jio and Airtel have completed the compliance, due to which both these companies can start satellite broadband along with spectrum allocation. At the same time, Starlink and Amazon have to fulfill some regulatory compliance.

Elon Musk's company had recently said that all the compliances to start satellite broadband service in India will be completed soon. Starlink has also applied to start its satellite broadband service in India by 2022. The company has currently launched its satellite internet service in America, Europe, Africa and Australia.
The telecom regulator has given its recommendations to DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunications by December 15 for starting satellite broadband service in India. Now the Telecom Department can soon take a decision regarding the allocation of spectrum. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had said that like 2G, spectrum will be allocated for satellite broadband service. However, Jio and Airtel are in favor of spectrum allocation through auction.
According to the recent reports, a decision regarding satellite internet service in India can be taken in January i.e. this month. Allocation of spectrum to access service providers can be done soon. After this, satellite broadband can be started in India. After the launch of satellite broadband service, users will be able to access high speed internet even without any mobile network or optical fiber. This is going to be very special for the internet world. A decision on spectrum allocation is awaited by TRAI.
