Elon Musk's satellite internet service Starlink is preparing to launch its services in India. Starlink is waiting for the green signal from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the regulator (TRAI). The government has constituted an advisory committee for spectrum allocation for satellite internet services in India. With the completion of the allocation process, all service providers will start their satellite internet services in India. Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet has increased the tension of telecom operators Jio, Airtel and Vi (Vodafone Idea).
Jio wrote a letter to TRAI
Recently Jio has appealed to telecom regulator TRAI to revise the satellite communication papers. The country's largest telecom company, in its letter to the regulator, has stressed on maintaining fair competition regarding satellite and terrestrial services. Last month, on September 27, a stakeholders' meeting was held regarding satellite spectrum allocation, in which TRAI made it clear that satellite spectrum will be allocated without any auction, which was opposed by the telecom operators.
Jio is supported by Airtel
Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal has also supported the question raised by Jio regarding spectrum allocation at the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2024) held recently. Both Jio and Airtel companies are going to enter the satellite network market in India. Telecom operators have requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding spectrum allocation to maintain fair competition between existing terrestrial services and satellite services.
Apart from Elon Musk, Amazon is also preparing to bring its Project Kuiper satellite internet service in India. Both these companies have applied to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for satellite broadband licenses in India. After the launch of satellite broadband service, India's telecom sector may see unprecedented changes in the coming years.
Elon Musk Starlink
Starlink is popular all over the world
Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service is very popular all over the world. Starlink Satellite Internet Service is part of Elon Musk's SpaceX company. The Starlink broadband network works on satellite systems moving in lower Earth orbit. High speed broadband internet service is provided to the users through Starlink. High speed internet is delivered through satellite broadband without any mobile towers or wires. This service based on satellite will directly benefit those users who live in border or hilly areas. The number of mobile towers in these places is very less and providing optical fiber is a very complex task.
Service will not be stopped in bad weather
Elon Musk's Starlink service has been designed in such a way that it will not be affected by bad weather such as rain, fog or heat. Elon Musk's Starlink service will be able to provide high-speed internet even during bad weather. For satellite broadband service, operators install a dish antenna on the roof of users' homes. After this the internet signal is received through satellite. At present, Elon Musk's Starlink internet service is available in 36 countries of the world. Starlink is preparing to start its service in India as soon as possible.
