In a major attack on cyber crime, the Department of Telecommunications has banned about 35 thousand WhatsApp accounts. Besides, action has also been taken on more than 70 thousand WhatsApp groups and communities. Last month too, DoT had taken major action and blocked lakhs of fake SMS templates. The Department of Telecommunications has been taking action on increasing cyber crime for the last few months. During this period, work has been done to ban lakhs of WhatsApp accounts. Not only this, DoT and TRAI have also revised many of their policies, so that cyber crime can be controlled.

WhatsApp numbers closed

While sharing the information through its official Apart from this, 73,789 WhatsApp groups and communities have also been banned. The Department of Telecommunications has appreciated the conscious citizens and said that your reporting can make a big difference. If you also suspect fraud, then immediately report it on the government portal Chakshu (Sancharsaathi.gov.in).

Let us tell you that the government had launched this portal in 2023. Incidents of fraud can be reported online on the Sanchar Sathi portal of the Department of Telecommunications. Apart from this, there is also a facility to report calls or messages coming from any unknown number. Telecom regulator TRAI has recently imposed a fine of crores of rupees on all telecom operators for their inability to stop fake calls. The telecom regulator has so far imposed a fine of Rs 142 crore on telecom companies. Also, instructions have been issued to the Department of Telecommunications to pay the amount of this fine from the bank guarantees of these companies.

Lakhs of SIMs have been switched off

Last year, the government took major action against cyber crime and ordered closure of 78.33 lakh mobile numbers. These mobile numbers were issued to people on the basis of fake documents. With the help of new AI tools implemented by the Department of Telecommunications, these fake numbers were identified and action was taken against them. Not only this, the government had also issued an order to block 6.78 lakh mobile numbers involved in cyber crime.
