New Delhi: Troubled by the increasing level of pollution in Delhi for the last few days, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has given a big statement. Senior BJP leader Gadkari admitted on Tuesday that he does not feel like coming to Delhi because he often gets infected here. Addressing an event in the country's capital, Gadkari, MP from Nagpur, said that Delhi city is such that 'I do not like living here. Due to pollution here, I get infection.
'Coming to Delhi it feels like…'
Gadkari said that whenever he has to come to Delhi, he is in a state of confusion. He said, 'Every time I come to Delhi I feel whether I should go or not. There is such terrible pollution. Gadkari suggested that the best way to reduce pollution is to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels i.e. petrol and diesel. On Tuesday, Delhi residents saw a slight improvement in air quality but it was still quite polluted. In the morning the air quality index i.e. AQI was at 274, although it is in better condition than the last few days.
Delhiites got some relief
The beginning of December has been a bit of a relief for Delhiites compared to November because last month the AQI was often seen above 400. If seen this way, the level of air pollution was quite high on most days of the month in November. Due to pollution, the situation had become so bad that even schools had to be closed. Apart from this, the government had also limited the number of employees in offices.
Know what else Nitin Gadkari said
Taking his point further, Gadkari said that India imports fossil fuel worth Rs 22 lakh crore, which is challenging from the point of view of economy, environment and ecology. He said, 'We can reduce the import of fossil fuels by promoting alternative fuels.' Gadkari, known for his outspoken statements, said that the biggest problem facing India is poverty, hunger and unemployment, hence the government will have to ensure that economic and social equality is achieved in the times to come.
