Sambalpur: The Excise Department and police team in the district have seized silver worth Rs 1.5 crore. It is being told that the Excise Department team had received information about ganja smuggling. After receiving the information, a campaign was started to check vehicles on Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway. Meanwhile, a vehicle with Maharashtra registration number reached there, which was stopped and searched. Upon searching the vehicle, silver jewelery was recovered from it.
Silver recovered from Maharashtra number vehicle
Actually, vehicles coming from outside the state were being checked on Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway. Then a car with Maharashtra registration number was stopped. When this car was searched, the police and excise department officials were shocked. A huge quantity of silver jewelery was recovered from the car. Later, CT-GST officials were informed about the seizure of silver jewellery. The weight of the seized gems is said to be 166 kg 400 grams, whose value is around Rs 1.5 crore. However, the CT GST department has seized the silver jewelery and the persons carrying the jewelery are being interrogated further.
A campaign was being run to catch ganja
According to the information received, the Excise Department had received information about smuggling of ganja. After receiving the inputs, a checking campaign was started. During checking, this vehicle with Maharashtra registration number reached there and was stopped. When the vehicle was searched, officials found a huge amount of silver jewelery which was hidden in secret packets in one of the cars. At present, the silver jewelery has been confiscated and the people carrying it are being interrogated. Police say that the matter is being investigated. (Input- Shubham Kumar)
