A shocking case has come to light from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. A couple from Bihar sold their four-year-old daughter here for Rs 40,000. This incident took place in Sisupalgarh area of Bhubaneswar, where the couple was earning their living by working as daily wage labourers. He sold his daughter to a couple from Pipili area of Puri district.
The matter came to light when the landlord, Sarthak Mahanty, lodged a complaint at the Badgad police station. After receiving the complaint, the police took immediate action and saved the girl and took six people involved in the case into custody. These include the girl's parents, the couple who bought the girl and two women who carried out the deal.
Parents are daily wage laborers
IIC Trupti Ranjan Nayak of Badgada police station said that the couple has admitted that the girl was sold for Rs 40,000. The girl's parents earn their livelihood by working as daily wage labourers. Police said that the pictures of this entire incident were captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area, due to which the matter came to light.
Giving information, Childline director Benudhar Senapati said, “This child is from the first wife of the person being sold, whom he had abandoned. Then he remarried. The couple has confessed to their crime and it is a legal offense.” ” Police and Childline officials have taken the girl under their custody and further legal action is being taken.
