On September 26, Sanjay Raut was convicted in a defamation case. The court had sentenced Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut to 15 days in jail and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000. However, the court had postponed this punishment for 30 days. So that Raut can challenge the order in the High Court. Now Sanjay Raut has filed a revision petition in the Sessions Court against the conviction and jail sentence given by the Magistrate Court.
Defamation case of Rs 100 crore
Uddhav Thackeray faction leader Sanjay Raut had alleged that the Somaiya couple were involved in a scam of Rs 100 crore by misusing funds for the construction of toilets. After this, Medha Kirit Somaiya had given a complaint against Sanjay Raut and filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore.
What was Medha Somaiya's argument?
Medha had said in her complaint filed in the Sewri Metropolitan Magistrate's court that the allegations made by Sanjay Raut are baseless and derogatory in nature. The wife of former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said she was shocked to see reports that Raut had sued her and her husband for Rs 100 crore over the construction and maintenance of some public toilets in the area under the jurisdiction of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. Has been accused of being involved in the scam. In her complaint, Medha had said that the statements given by the accused in front of the media were defamatory.
