A major railway accident has been averted in Bihar. The engine derailed near the Route Relay Interlocking Crossing of Jamalpur Railway Station in Munger district. After this, three wheels of the railway engine came off the railway line. However, fortunately no major accident occurred during this period. Due to this accident involving a railway engine, there was an atmosphere of chaos at Jamalpur railway station for some time.
How did the accident happen?
According to information received from the Railways, the shunting man and loco pilot had left the place after stopping the engine. After some time, the engine itself moved forward about 50 meters and after coming near RRI, three wheels of the engine derailed. As soon as information about the incident was received, engineering and carriage department personnel reached the spot and started trying to bring the derailed wheels back on track with jacks and other equipment in their hands.
Many trains were affected
Due to this accident involving a railway engine, the operation of trains passing through line number three on the Kiul-Jamalpur-Bhagalpur railway section was stopped. However, up-down route trains continued to run from lines number one and two. Brahmaputra Mail going from Delhi to Kamakhya in the down route and Intercity going from Sahibganj to Danapur in the up line were affected for half an hour.
Railways ordered investigation
After this incident, railway officials have ordered an investigation. An order to investigate this incident has also been issued by Malda Railway Division. At the time of the incident, the team of PWI and section engineer immediately reached the spot. According to officials, on Friday evening of November 8, an electric engine number 30029 was parked on line number three of Jamalpur station. (Report: Anamika Gaur)
