Controversy has once again erupted over Veer Savarkar. Various types of statements are being made by politicians. Some are giving statements in favor and some against him. Meanwhile, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has now given a statement that Hindutva thinker Vinayak Damodar Savarkar used to eat meat and was not against cow slaughter. Actually, Dinesh Gundu Rao had arrived on Wednesday to participate in a program. During this he said, “Savarkar was a pure Brahmin and he used to eat meat. He was a non-vegetarian and he was not against cow slaughter. In a way, he was modern.”
Karnataka minister's statement
Dinesh Gundu Rao claimed that some people say that he also eats beef. As a Brahmin he ate meat and openly supported non-vegetarianism. This was his thinking. Rao further said that Mahatma Gandhi had true faith in Hindutva and was a vegetarian. But his actions were different. But he was a democrat. Regarding Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Rao said that Jinnah was a staunch Muslim. But he drank alcohol and it is said that Jinnah also ate pork. But after giving the theory of two nations and after politics he became a reputed Muslim leader. Jinnah was not conservative. But unlike him, Savarkar was conservative.
Said this on Mahatma Gandhi and Savarkar
In his statement, Rao also clarified the context under which he had made these comments. He said that in a program related to the book release, he had a good discussion about the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking to news agency PTI, he said that it was basically an observation on the contradiction between Mahatma Gandhi and Savarkar. How Mahatma Gandhi was religious and Savarkar an atheist, how Mahatma Gandhi was a person who was a vegetarian and believed in Hinduism, whereas Savarkar was a non-vegetarian and was a modernist.
