Pithoragarh: The Kailash Darshan project from the old Lipulekh pass in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand will start from the first week of October this year. Vinit Tomar, managing director of the project's nodal agency Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), said that the corporation and the tourism department have received heavy bookings for this pilot project. Tomar said, “The pilot project of the pending tourism scheme will be started with 60 tourists. These tourists will be taken from Pithoragarh to Gunji via a helicopter of a private company, from where they will reach the old Lipulekh pass on foot to visit the Kailash peak.
Tourists below 55 years of age will be allowed
He said that tourists below 55 years of age who wish to visit Kailash peak will be taken to the old Lipulekh pass in groups of 15 members each. The official said, “Earlier this program was scheduled between 15 September and 30 October but due to bad weather, now it will probably start from the first week of October. Meanwhile, the Dharchula administration issued 'Inner Line' permits to more than 100 Adi Kailash pilgrims after the Border Roads Organisation cleared the road by removing debris of the landslide in Tawaghat on Wednesday night. Dharchula's sub-district magistrate Shrestha Gunsola said that these pilgrims from all over the country, who had been staying in Dharchula for the last few days, left for Adi Kailash on Thursday after getting the permit.
