Jackals attack Odisha, 20 people attacked in 2 days, most of them are elderly – Top News Bulletin


After the news of wolf attack in Uttar Pradesh, cases of attacks by different animals are coming to light from different states. There is terror of leopard in Gujarat and elephant in Chhattisgarh. Now news of jackal attack has come to light from Odisha. More than 20 people were injured in jackal attacks in three villages of Polasara area of ​​Ganjam district in Odisha in the last two days, after which a 'high alert' has been issued in the area.

Officials said on Thursday that several elderly people and women from Hatiota, Jemadeipur and Chandramadeipur villages were also injured in the jackal attack. Most of the injured were treated at the Polasara Community Health Center (CHC).

21 people treated in CHC

Narayan Swain, medical officer of CHC Polasara, said, “We have treated at least 21 patients, most of whom were elderly, who were attacked by jackals. All have been discharged and are stable.” A victim from Hatiota said that a jackal attacked him and two others accompanying him while he was going to a pond on Wednesday morning. He said that when people chased the jackal away, it fled towards a neighbouring village. There is an atmosphere of panic in the local community. Many villagers are afraid to go out alone. They are also demanding compensation for those injured in the jackal attack.

Forest officer assured compensation

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Ghumusar South Division BK Acharya said, “A forest department team has been sent to the area to investigate the incident.” He assured that the victims will be compensated as per the government guidelines. Acharya said, “We are keeping a close watch on the situation.” Polasara Range Officer Anil Kumar Panda said that the forest department team is trying to find out whether these animals are indeed jackals. He said, “We are closely monitoring the situation.” (Input- PTI language)
