New Delhi: First, fake ED officers raided Chhatarpur area of South Delhi to recover Rs 5 crore, then something happened that they had to leave their car and run away. Giving information about this on Friday, ED said that Delhi Police has arrested 7 people for conducting a 'fake' raid against a person living in DLF Farm area by posing as an ED officer and trying to extort Rs 5 crore from him. A case has been registered against the people.
'On the night of 21st October, they came in two cars'
The ED issued a statement on Friday saying that it received information on October 22 at around 12 noon that 'some people, posing as ED officers, were conducting fake ED searches at Ashoka Avenue, DLF Farms in Chhatarpur area of South Delhi. He was also told that fake ED officers had taken the victim to the Kotak Bank branch at Hauz Khas to withdraw Rs 5 crore from his bank account, so that this amount could be withdrawn in the name of ED raid. The victim told the ED and police officials that on the night of 21 October, 7 people came to his house in 2 cars and claimed that they were ED officials who had come to conduct a raid.
'Fake officers spent the night at the victim's house'
The victim told officers that three people talked to him, while the others had masks on their faces. ED said that the swindlers asked the victim why he was regularly withdrawing cash from his bank account. The agency said they also showed him some checks from his old bank account and the 'fake' ED officials threatened him that they would arrest him if he did not give them crores of rupees. According to the agency, the victim told the fraudsters that the money could be withdrawn from the bank only the next morning, so the fake officers stayed at the victim's house that night.
'The accused could not take the car due to the gate being closed'
According to the ED, when the thugs took the man to the bank the next day, he 'succeeded' in sending a message to his lawyer, who soon reached the bank and asked the thugs to show his identity card. The ED said, 'The fake ED officers suspected that they were being caught and ran away before the bank manager could close the gate.' ED said that some other thugs staying at the victim's house also ran away as soon as they got wind of the incident at the bank, but they could not take their car as the gate of the house was closed.
