A fierce encounter took place between Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) and Naxalites on Monday night in Kabbinale village located in Karkala taluk of Udupi district of Karnataka. Notorious Naxalite leader Vikram Gowda was killed in this encounter. The encounter took place during an anti-Naxal search operation in Seetambelu area, when firing broke out between the Naxals and the ANF team. The ANF team had intensified this operation after receiving information about suspicious activities of a Naxal unit.
Intruded into Yedagunda village
According to information, a Naxal unit had visited a remote house under the jurisdiction of Jayapura police station in Chikmagalur district. After this they also infiltrated Yedagunda village in Koppa taluk, where the Naxalites discussed issues related to forest encroachment and Kasturirangan report. Keeping these reports in mind, the anti-Naxal operation in the area was further intensified.

The name of Vikram Gowda was prominent among the Naxal leaders active in Karnataka. He was involved in several violent incidents in the area. Following the success of ANF and police action, Naxal activities in the area are being closely monitored and search operations are underway. After this encounter, the police have further strengthened the security arrangements in the area, so that the possibility of other groups of Naxalites becoming active can be prevented.
