Cyclone Fangal wreaks havoc, landslide in Tamil Nadu, 7 people including child buried under debris – Top News Bulletin

A landslide occurred in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu late on Sunday evening, in which a building situated on the lower slope of a hill was hit. Seven people from two families are feared trapped in this landslide, including children. According to initial information, this landslide occurred due to heavy rains in the district due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal.

District Collector D. Bhaskar Pandian said that five children were among those trapped inside the house. No trace of him has been found. The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a landslide occurred in VOC Nagar, located at the foothills of Annamalaiyar hills in Tiruvannamalai, damaging several houses.

Since there is a huge rock over the houses in the area, the district administration has sought help from NDRF and SDRF teams to launch the rescue operation. According to the Collector, if the rescue operation is not carried out properly then there is a danger of the rock falling. Several other houses near the incident site were also damaged. The administration has shifted the local people to safe places. Teams of local police, SDRF and NDRF are busy rescuing the people buried under the debris.
