Cloud burst in Himachal's Sirmaur, 1 dead; IMD issues red alert of heavy rain – Top News Bulletin


One person died in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district due to heavy rain triggered by cloudburst, while 26 roads including national highways were closed in the district due to bad weather. Officials said around 50 roads were closed on Wednesday evening due to heavy rains in many parts of the state, taking the total number of roads closed in the state to 71. These also include National Highway (NH)-707.

Schools and colleges closed in Paonta Sahib and Shalai.

Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta said one person died due to cloudburst in Parloni village, while some shops and other infrastructure were damaged after a 'gharat' collapsed in Amboya area of ​​Paonta subdivision of the district. The deceased has been identified as Rangi, who was buried under the debris. The official said that some roads are blocked and the water level of Yamuna river has also increased. He informed that educational institutions have been closed for a day in Paonta Sahib and Shalai areas of the district.

According to meteorological department officials, Dhaula Kuan in Sirmaur district was the rainiest place in the state, receiving 275 mm of rain. After this, 165.6 mm in Paonta Sahib, 94.4 mm in Nahan, 54 mm in Dharamshala, 43.2 mm in Jubbarhatti, 42 in Mandi.

2 mm rainfall, Palampur received 39 mm rainfall, Kangra received 38.3 mm rainfall and Dehra Gopipur received 38 mm rainfall.

26 roads closed in Sirmaur and 24 in Mandi

Alert of heavy rain in these districts

The local weather office issued an alert of heavy rain in different parts of the state on Thursday. The local weather office also warned of the threat of light to moderate flooding in parts of seven of the 12 districts, including Shimla, Sirmaur Kangra, Chamba, Solan, Kullu and Mandi, till Friday. The weather office said on Wednesday that the rainfall deficit in the current monsoon period (from June 1) is 19 per cent. Himachal Pradesh received 590.4 mm rainfall during this period against the normal rainfall of 729.5 mm.

183 people died, 28 missing in rain related incidents

Officials said 183 people have died in rain-related incidents since the onset of monsoon till Wednesday evening, while 28 are missing. He said the state has suffered a loss of Rs 1,332 crore. (with language inputs)
