What did you say in the farewell speech?
Addressing his farewell ceremony, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud said, “Thank you very much for such a great honour. I would like to wholeheartedly thank the Supreme Court Bar Association for organizing this event. When I was growing up, my mother had told me that I have named you Dhananjay. But there is no 'wealth' in your 'Dhananjay'. I want you to acquire knowledge.”
Father gave lessons at home
D.Y. Chandrachud said, “He (my father) had bought this small flat in Pune. I asked him, why are you buying a flat in Pune? When will we go and live there? He said, I know I will never live there. I don't know how long I will stay with you, but keep this flat till the last day of your tenure, he said. If your moral integrity or intellectual integrity has ever been compromised, I want to tell you that you have a roof over your head. Never allow yourself to be compromised as a lawyer or a judge because you have yours. There is no home.”
