Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder and head of Isha Foundation, has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the order for police investigation against Isha Foundation. Retired Professor S Kamaraj had filed a petition against the Foundation in the Madras High Court. Kamaraj had alleged in the Habeas Corpus petition filed in the High Court that his daughters Lata and Geeta have been kept hostage in the ashram of Isha Foundation. After this the High Court had ordered an investigation against the ashram.
Madras High Court had said on September 30 that the police should present the details of all criminal cases related to Isha Foundation. The next day, on October 1, about 150 policemen reached the ashram to investigate. Sadhguru had challenged the High Court order in the Supreme Court, on which the Supreme Court gave its verdict today.
CJI spoke to Kamaraj's two daughters
During the hearing, the Supreme Court said that we will stay the High Court order. Commenting on the matter, Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud said that you cannot send an army of policemen to such an institution. However, the Chief Justice said that he would talk to both the women present online in the chamber and then read the order.
The CJI passed the order after speaking to both the daughters of retired Agricultural University professor S Kamaraj. During the phone conversation, Kamaraj's daughters told the CJI that they were living in the ashram on their own free will and could come out of the ashram on their own free will.
Isha Foundation had responded to Kamaraj's allegations.
'Living in Isha Yoga Center as per his wish'
The organization has said that thousands of people live in Isha Yoga Center who are not ascetics and there are some who have taken the position of celibacy or asceticism. Despite this, the petitioners wanted the Sanyasis to be produced before the Court and the Sanyasis have presented themselves before the Court. He has clearly stated that he is staying at Isha Yoga Center of his own free will. Now that the matter has come to the notice of the court, we hope that the truth will prevail and all the unnecessary controversies will come to an end.
