Bangladesh's interim government is in the 'clutches of fundamentalists', UN should intervene: Giriraj – Top News Bulletin

New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday raised his voice on the issue of Bangladesh and said that the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh show that the interim government of that country is in the “clutch of fundamentalists”. He asked the United Nations to intervene in this matter. Condemning the arrest of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh, he said such attacks are against humanity. The BJP, however, refrained from commenting in this regard and said it stood by the “appropriate stand” taken by the External Affairs Ministry on the issue.

Appeal to ensure safety of minorities

India on Tuesday expressed “deep concern” over the arrest of Das in Bangladesh and denial of bail to him and appealed to the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities. When asked to comment on the issue, BJP MP and national spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference held at the party headquarters here, “We agree with the stand of the Indian government.” Bangladesh Police arrested Hindu group Samilit Sanatani Jot. Its leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was arrested on Monday from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area of Dhaka.

United Nations should intervene

Singh told reporters in the Parliament complex, “The acting 'Prime Minister' of Bangladesh is in the clutches of fundamentalists. The way Hindus are being attacked is against humanity. The United Nations should intervene in this matter.'' The interim government of Bangladesh is headed by Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus. Singh said that targeting of Hindus and arrest of religious leaders shows that like Pakistan, fundamentalists are dominating the interim government of Bangladesh.

Laws made to stop religious conversion

The minister was asked about the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh and the current situation there. Singh also targeted the opposition and said that it is raising the issue of violence cautiously but it is not concerned about the problems faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. He said, “People are talking about being careful, but Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav are not seeing Bangladesh, where atrocities are being committed on Hindus. All Hindus should protest against the atrocities taking place in Bangladesh.'' He also stressed the need for a law to stop conversion in India.
