New Delhi . Are you also fond of eating ultraprocessed foods (UPF) like chips, biscuits, sausages, burgers, soft drinks and instant noodles? So be careful, because a research says that ultraprocessed foods can increase your age rapidly.
A person's biological age is a relatively new way of measuring his or her health. It tells how old a person looks on the basis of various molecular biomarkers.
Researchers from Monash University in Australia said that a person with a healthy lifestyle can have a biological age that is younger than their chronological age, while poor lifestyle choices can make you age sooner.
The study, published in the journal Age & Aging, included 16,055 US participants aged 2079 and showed that for every 10 percent increase in ultraprocessed food consumption, the difference between biological and chronological age increased. increased by approximately 2.4 months.
Research found that people who consumed the most ultraprocessed food (UPF) appeared biologically about 1 year older and those who consumed the least appeared biologically about 1 year younger.
Dr Barbara Cardoso, a senior lecturer and nutritional biochemist in the university's Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food, said the findings underlined the importance of eating as many unprocessed and minimally processed foods as possible.
He said, “The significance of our findings is very high, because our predictions show that for every 10 percent increase in total energy intake from the intake of ultraprocessed foods there will be about a 2 percent increase in mortality and death rates within two years.” There is a 0.5 percent risk of chronic disease.”
UPFs are industrially produced products that contain ingredients not commonly used in home kitchens, such as hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, flavor enhancers, and emulsifiers.
These foods are high in salt, sugar, fat and other unhealthy ingredients and are designed for convenience and long shelf life.
