Virat Kohli’s one8 Commune restaurant has long been synonymous with stylish dining and culinary talent. After making its mark in New Delhi and Mumbai, this beloved restaurant chain has finally arrived in Mohali, Punjab, and trust us – it’s a must-visit. As the tenth outlet in their collection, this one promises an experience like no other. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a visual feast. The towering white lanterns hanging elegantly from the ceiling set the perfect ambiance. The spacious seating is plush and inviting, perfect for an intimate dinner or a lively gathering. And then, of course, there’s the unique and stylish bar, which offers a classy experience for cocktail lovers. Its rooftop seating lets you take in the stunning cityscape as you enjoy your meal. I recently visited this Mohali gem and sampled some of the culinary delights. Here’s everything I tried:
Cocktails:
Our evening began with a round of signature cocktails. one8 Commune's cocktail menu is crafted to impress and we couldn't resist trying a few. First up, the Malabari Nannaria refreshing concoction made with vacuum-sealed vanilla bean-infused vodka, honeyed jalapeno water, and green apple juice, topped with ginger beer. It was a balanced mix of sweet, spicy, and sour that had us hooked. Then came the signature dish, Popcorn – And yes, it was served in a bag of real popcorn! This fun drink, with vanilla pods and Aperol, made us feel like we were drinking buttered popcorn, and we were blown away by both the taste and the presentation. Majestic sourInfused with floral and fruity notes, it offered a smooth, vodka-flavored sip that was the perfect palate cleanser.
Appetizers:
one8 Commune's appetizers are an experience in themselves. We start with their signature dish Dim Sum with mushrooms. These perfectly crafted, juicy dim sums won us over from the first bite. Their unique maroon color caught our attention and the accompanying sauces added a delicious contrast of flavors. Next up, Hummus chaat with kala chana A fusion masterpiece combining Indian and Mediterranean elements. The naan accompanied by hummus instead of the usual pita bread was a radical change! To complete the starters, we tried the Amritsari Fish and Chipsa golden delight, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A must try if you love seafood.
Main course:
Despite our growing fullness, we could not resist the Thai Chili Garlic Noodles – a spicy and flavourful dish that is sure to win over any fan of Asian cuisine. We also tried the Nasi Goreng, A classic Indonesian dish that had plenty of flavor, although the chicken had a slightly rubbery texture.
Sweet endings:
No meal is complete without dessert, and we couldn't stop at just one. First, we treated ourselves to the Tiramisu Cornetto, A take on the classic tiramisu served in a cornetto cone. While the sweetness was a bit overwhelming, the creative presentation made up for it. Our second dessert choice was the PWatch me up cakea crowd pleaser that is as fun as it is delicious. Watching the chocolate slide across the surface was a visual treat and the rich flavours did not disappoint either.
From the captivating ambiance to the carefully curated menu, one8 Commune in Mohali exceeded all our expectations. Whether you are looking for a night out with friends or a special meal with family, this place ticks all the boxes.
