Chandigarh. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV), which spread in China, is now spreading in India too. People's concerns have increased after positive cases of HMPV were reported in many states of the country.
However, Dr. PVM Lakshmi of Chandigarh PGI had a special conversation with on Tuesday regarding HMPV. She said, “There is a lot of fear among people about human metapneumovirus. But I would say that there is no need to be afraid of this virus, because it is a common infectious virus.”
He further said, “Some cases related to this virus have been found in China and that is why there is an atmosphere of fear among the people. But, many cases were found in PGI last year also. This virus is especially common in small children, elderly people or people with low immunity. Serious infection can occur in most people, which gets cured soon. It has been said that there is no need to fear and the state governments have issued an advisory regarding this. too cautious Stay.”
Dr. Lakshmi said, “The government has said that if cases related to this virus come, then their samples should be taken and sent to the lab for testing. It has to be seen whether the cases are increasing like last year? It will also be seen whether there is any mutation in the virus due to which the virus is trying to be isolated and sequenced. Samples of all the patients admitted with these symptoms will be taken and sent to the lab.
He further said, “People do not need to be afraid and they have to be cautious. Keep distance from people suffering from cough and cold and such patients themselves should wear gloves and masks. Apart from this, you can wear a mask for your safety in crowded places. Monitoring is necessary for the increase and decrease of the virus, for which labs are also present in every state. They should be tested only if there are labs in their states.
The doctor said, “Only in serious cases, samples will be taken and tested and this will not be done in normal cases. The precautions that were taken during Covid still have to be followed.”
