New Delhi . In view of the havoc caused by HMPV, the Health Ministry has geared up. Meanwhile, the Union Health Secretary reviewed the current status of respiratory diseases in the country and public health measures for their management.
The Health Secretary advised states to further strengthen surveillance of ILI (influenzalike symptoms) and SARI (severe acute respiratory infections). Additionally, states were also asked to increase public awareness about preventive measures, so that such cases can be detected in time.
The Health Secretary also said that states should focus on increasing surveillance and review of such cases, so that there is no lapse in tackling respiratory diseases.
Let us tell you that the havoc of HMPV virus which started from China has now reached India. Apart from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, two cases related to this virus have been confirmed in Tamil Nadu. Apart from this, Maharashtra Government has also issued an advisory in this regard. The Central Government has already told the World Health Organization that we should keep giving updates in this regard from time to time.
According to media reports, HMPV virus mainly affects the respiratory system of the victim. Its symptoms are similar to those of Covid19 in many cases. However, this virus mainly infects infants and young children. The most common symptom in a virus infected patient is cough. Along with this, problems like mild fever, wheezing, runny nose or sore throat may also occur. In some cases, serious symptoms may occur after being infected with the virus. There may also be difficulty in breathing.
