New Delhi . A large research conducted on more than 250,000 people has revealed that high intake of omega3 and omega6 fatty acids can be helpful in protecting against various types of cancer.
Cancer is becoming a global health concern today with the increase in cases of premature cancer.
Omega3 and Omega6 fatty acids are “healthy fats” and are very beneficial for the body. These are vital for the cells and are the perfect choice for reducing bad cholesterol levels, keeping the brain healthy and maintaining mental health.
According to research published in the International Journal of Cancer, high levels of omega3 protect against colon, stomach and lung cancer.
On the other hand, high levels of omega6 may offer protection against 14 different cancers, including brain and bladder cancer.
Lead author Yuchen Zhang, a doctoral student in the College of Public Health at the University of Georgia, said increased levels of omega3 and omega6 are directly linked to falling cancer rates.
Zhang said that amid the rise in cancer cases worldwide, this research suggests that the average person should focus on including more of these fatty acids in their diet.
Researchers analyzed data from more than 250,000 people.
Omega3 and omega6 are also present in fatty fish, nuts, and even some plant oils. We don't get enough of it from our diets, so people often take fish oil supplements, which is one of the most popular diet pills on the market. However, researchers said that it may not be suitable for everyone.
Research has shown that increased levels of omega3 may slightly increase the risk of prostate cancer in men. However, no such relation was found in women. Research has said that Omega6 is more beneficial for women and youth.
