Doctors have a vital role in raising awareness about home blood pressure monitoring for effective hypertension management: OmronHealthcare

Jaipur. Omron Healthcare India highlighted the important role of doctors in promoting home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) for hypertension management at BPCON 2024 (34th Annual Conference of the Indian Hypertension Society). The conference is being held on 14-15 September 2024 in Jaipur. The event will see health experts discussing the importance of making regular blood pressure monitoring at home a part of daily healthcare.

Tetsuya Yamada, Managing Director, Omron Healthcare India, said, “Doctors' involvement in patient behavior and treatment is crucial. Omron understands this and continues to empower doctors with the latest technology in blood pressure monitoring. We urge doctors to encourage their patients to regularly check their blood pressure at home to promote effective management of hypertension.”

Yamada further said that about 22 crore people in India suffer from high blood pressure, but according to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), only 15% of people are getting treatment and only 5% are using digital BP monitors. This shows that most people are unaware of their condition or are not getting the right treatment. According to the India Heart Study 2020, home blood pressure monitoring is a better way to identify white coat hypertension and mask hypertension. Doctors equipped with the right information and equipment can contribute significantly in reducing the growing burden of heart diseases.

Omron Healthcare has been a pioneer in hypertension management for nearly half a century and now the company has expanded its range to include blood pressure as well as ECG and atrial fibrillation (Afib) devices for accurate monitoring. “The risk of stroke increases 3.4 times with hypertension, while it increases 5 times in case of Afib. Monitoring Afib and notifying doctors is critical for early management of heart and brain health. All Omron devices are connected, giving doctors real-time information,” Yamada said.

Omron Healthcare is committed to partnering with doctors and healthcare organizations to reduce cardiac events and promote health monitoring habits under the “Going for Zero” mission. The company also aims to make its products available in smaller towns and rural areas, where the need for heart disease solutions is high. Working closely with digital tools and local healthcare services, Omron is committed to making heart health management accessible and effective across the country.
