Breathing poisonous air before pregnancy is dangerous for the child, can lead to obesity!

New Delhi . A research revealed that excessive exposure to air pollution particulate matter (PM 2.5, PM 10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) three months before conception increased the risk of obesity in the child till two years after birth. Could stay.

Earlier also research was done on the ill effects of pollution. There was mention of challenges during pregnancy, but this time research has been done on the conditions before conception.

The new study, conducted by an international team of researchers from the US and China, focused on the period before conception. This specifically talks about before pregnancy.

According to research published in the journal Environmental Research, pollution during this time frame (three months before conception) affects the health of sperm and eggs.

The study included 5,834 motherchild pairs recruited from maternity clinics in Shanghai.

The findings showed that increased exposure to PM 2.5, PM 10 and nitrogen dioxide before pregnancy could increase BMI or BMIZ.

“We found that the three months before conception are critical, and anyone planning a child should be aware of their child's risk of obesity,” said Jiawen Liao, a postdoctoral research associate at the Kack School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC). To reduce this, one should avoid polluted air.”

The researchers found that high levels of PM2.5 exposure during the prenatal period was associated with a 0.078 increase in the child's BMIZ at two years of age, while high levels of PM10 exposure were associated with a 0.093 kgm2 increase in BMI. was associated with growth.

It was found that the baby's weight had increased just six months after birth. These were the same children whose mothers were breathing poisonous air before conception.

“Although the magnitude is small, everyone is exposed to air pollution today. Children's risk of obesity may be much larger and may begin before their mothers' pregnancy,” said Zhanghua Chen, an assistant professor at the CAC School of Economics. “

“This is an observational study. More research is needed to determine the risk. The findings suggest that people can work to protect themselves and their children from this potential harm,” the researchers said.
