Lahore. Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has resigned from the post of head coach of Pakistan Test cricket team. He was appointed the head coach of Pakistan Test team in April this year. Following Gillespie's resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach of the Test team.
In Gillespie's last coaching series, Pakistan made a spectacular comeback from 10 down against England in the threeTest series at home.
Currently, Pakistan is playing a threematch T20 series against South Africa. This will be followed by three ODI matches and then a twoTest series will start in Centurion from Boxing Day (26 December).
Aaqib Javed's first task during this tour will be coaching the Test series against South Africa. The first Test match will be played from 26 to 30 December at SuperSport Park, Centurion, while the second Test will be played from 3 to 7 January at Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town.
Pakistan is currently ranked seventh in the points table of the ICC World Test Championship and is out of the race for next year's final. He has four Test matches left in this cycle.
On the other hand, South Africa is at the first position in the points table and has become a strong contender to make the final after recently defeating Sri Lanka 20.
Aaqib Javed is a former Pakistan fast bowler who has represented the country in 22 Test matches. Apart from taking 54 wickets in Test matches, Javed has also taken 182 wickets in 163 ODI matches. He was considered a brilliant fast bowler who had an excellent yorker ball.
