Descenders Next, a sort of extreme sports-focused sequel to 2018's acclaimed downhill cycling hit Descenders, has begun its online testing sessions via Steam, giving players the chance to try out a “huge” version before of its eventual launch.
Developer RageSquid unveiled Descenders Next in August, explaining that its goal was to introduce “the same sensation, the same sensory speed” as its predecessor, but in as many extreme sports as possible in the coming years.
For starters, though, Descenders Next focuses on two different snowboard sports: snowboarding and mountainboarding. There's talk of speed challenges, trick-focused challenges, scavenger hunts, kit upgrades and more as players hurtle down procedural off-road mountains and through “multiple huge biomes.”
Descenders Next will launch sometime in 2025, but players can get stuck in right now thanks to its previously announced test sessions. Details remain fairly vague – there's no information on how the test sessions will be structured or how long they will last – but a press release accompanying its launch notes that players will have access to a “large build with many hours of gameplay, which shows both snowboarding and mountainboarding, with full online multiplayer.”
