Last week, Microsoft released an optional update for Windows 11 and, unfortunately, in some cases it has caused serious problems.
This is an optional update (KB5043145) for Windows 11 23H2 that was supposed to bring some minor quality of life improvements, but turned out to contain some unexpected bugs.
In it supporting document For the update, Microsoft has acknowledged some known issues, with unpleasant issues including some users being asked to restart their devices, sometimes multiple times, while others see their PC crash with blue or green screen errors.
Additionally, some devices open the Windows Automatic Repair Tool after multiple reboots and even BitLocker Recovery may appear in some cases. BitLocker is a Windows security tool that can protect the data on your device by encrypting it, but it is only available for users of Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions. So if you're not using them (and most people reading this will be in Windows 11 Home – You will not be affected by that particular error.
we saw BitLocker Related Update Issues and repeated unsolicited reboots at the beginning of the year, so unfortunately these problems seem to continue.
The investigation is underway; wait for more information.
In the support document, Microsoft says it is currently investigating these issues and will provide more information when it becomes available. So for now, we can sit back and wait for feedback from the software giant.
However, remember that this is an optional update – you don't need to install it and you can stay away. I would recommend doing just that with this preview update, especially since we currently don't know of any fixes for these bugs.
However, if you've already launched with KB5043145 and encountered any of these gremlins, you can send a message to Microsoft through the Feedback Hub app and describe your experience. This information could help Microsoft understand the problem and find a solution more quickly.
Alternatively, neowinwho spotted this development, suggests that you can visit the Feedback Center and search for 'KB5043145'. This should return the most relevant posts on the forum regarding the patch, and if you see any complaints that echo your issues and concerns, you can upvote them to increase their visibility.
In general, in terms of insects picking on and onIt is not a pretty picture that is painted of Windows 11 these days. There seem to be more problems with the newer operating system than with its still-popular predecessor, Windows 10, and perhaps that's one of the reasons.
