Why hasn't PlayStation done anything new with Bloodborne? Shuhei Yoshida has a theory

It's been many years since we last heard anything about a new Bloodborne game, even though there's clearly a demand for one. And I'm not just talking about a new game under the name Bloodborne. There hasn't even been any news of a remaster, despite several other PlayStation games, such as The Last of Us and Horizon Zero Dawn, receiving a console update in recent years.

Meanwhile, titles like Days Gone and God of War (including the sequel Ragnarök) were also released on PC, following their time as PlayStation exclusives. But the same cannot be said for poor Bloodborne, even though this is the dream of many hunters.

So why is that? Well, former Sony Interactive Entertainment executive and PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida has a theory.

During an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida was asked if we would ever see Bloodborne again, and with a nervous laugh, Yoshida acknowledged that it was a hot topic.

“Bloodborne is one of the most popular questions on my Twitter/X,” he responded. “And people wonder why we haven't really done anything… it should be easy, right?” He joked that some fans have been “frustrated” by the number of games PlayStation has remastered, and yet Bloodborne hasn't been one of them.

Yoshida then went on to state that he believes a very key factor in the lack of a Bloodborne remaster or similar comes down to one fairly simple thing: the game's creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, is “so busy” that it simply hasn't been possible.

“Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So I think he's interested, but he's so successful and so busy that he can't do it himself and doesn't want anyone else to touch it,” Yoshida. reasoned.

Therefore, Yoshida believes that the PlayStation team is simply respecting Miyazaki's wish and doing just that: without touching him.

Yoshida again emphasized that this was just his personal theory as to why news about anything Bloodborne-flavored hasn't existed, but it certainly seems like a reasonable assumption. After all, Miyazaki has been quite involved with the Elden Ring phenomenon and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in recent years.

Last year, Miyazaki spoke to Eurogamer about Bloodborne, stating that he was “very happy” to see so many passionate fans calling for a remake to be made.

“Simply put, it makes me very happy to see that it is a title with many specific memories, both for me and for the staff who worked on it,” he said. “And when we see those passionate voices in the community, of course, it excites us, it makes us feel very lucky to have that and to have those memories.”

As for Yoshida, it was revealed yesterday that the former executive had landed his first job as a voice actor following his departure from PlayStation.
