Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 studio promises loads of player-requested features and fixes

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is doing well, with its best launch yet and a ton of critical praise, but developer Saber Interactive isn't holding back. The studio has now promised a slew of fan-requested fixes, starting with connectivity issues as a “top priority” and perhaps even the introduction of a field of view slider if it's really needed.

This all comes via a lengthy message to the community on Steam, which follows Saber's recent request for fan feedback on what areas they want to see addressed first. At the top of that list are the aforementioned connectivity issues, which the developer acknowledges have led to server issues, the inability to connect with friends (technologically rather than emotionally, I'm assuming), plus the loss of save games. Saber says it's “working around the clock” to increase server capacity and reduce server load, and that a larger patch to fix these issues will be released “soon.”

It also addresses the issue of bot companions, after players complained that their general ineffectiveness makes solo games “significantly more difficult.” Saber claims that the bots’ behavior is intentional and that it doesn’t want them to “take away from the player,” but the studio does at least acknowledge that bots can sometimes be “a bit too passive.” As such, it will be introducing improvements specifically during campaign boss fights in the next patch, and is also considering increasing their usefulness during “specific objectives” in the future.

There's plenty more to say on both of these topics in Saber's post, including a promise to adjust veteran difficulty in a future patch to help solo players who find it too difficult thanks to those bots. “It will still be challenging,” the developer says, “but it will be a bit more fair because we're adjusting the AI's aggression on this difficulty.”

Beyond that, Saber gives plenty of yeses, noes, and maybes to player suggestions, confirming that new classes and new melee weapons are being considered, while Marine face customization and new armor colors are definitely on the way. FoV slider fans have less positive news right away, though, as Saber says FoV sliders are “not a thing.” [it’s] comfortable with it, as it can degrade the visual aspect of the game.”

“And on top of that,” the studio continues, “it’s very complex. Our game is not a first-person shooter, the camera we have is very cinematic and constantly changes position and field of view depending on what you’re doing.” Despite that reluctance, Saber acknowledges that the request is very popular, so “it’s considering it anyway.” However, a left/right shoulder swap is a resounding ‘no’, because it would have to support all melee combat animations and transitions.
