Valve has announced Steam Deck OLED: White Edition.
This new version of the portable PC will launch on November 18, but if you want one, be careful: only a limited number will be available (“Once we're out, we're out,” says Valve).
“Last year, we released a limited edition translucent and smoked OLED Steam Deck as an experiment to find out if there was interest in alternative colorways (there was!). This is our second experiment in that regard,” Valve explained, sharing a look at the next Steam Deck.
“The difference this time (aside from the color!) is that we can ship the White Limited Edition to all regions where the Steam Deck already ships,” the company continued. “We're curious to see what the answer is and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about potential new color variants in the future.”
Valve said it has been “very happy with the reception of Steam Deck” since the team first released the LCD version in 2022. “We've always said that our intention is to continually work to improve Steam Deck, and that's true both since “from a software perspective (continue to ship improvements) and a hardware perspective (Steam Deck OLED, as well as continued work toward the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans).”
Steam Deck: White OLED features the same specifications as Valve's 1TB Steam Deck OLED model. Continuing with the white theme, it will arrive with a white carrying case and a white microfiber cleaning cloth. It costs £599/$679, and interested parties will be limited to one unit per account. “These accounts must have made a purchase on Steam before November 2024 and be in good standing to be eligible,” Valve said.
Elsewhere in the news, Valve recently added a game recording feature to Steam, which also works on the Steam Deck.
