Top 10 VR Games for Q4 2024
2024 has been a big year for VR gamers and things are looking even better for the rest of 2024. In the last three months of the year, there are some heavy hitters: Batman, anyone? – ready to be released. The virtual reality landscape has been bolstered by the release of the PSVR 2 PC Adapter, which opens up PCVR for PSVR 2 headset owners. There's also the imminent release of the Meta Quest 3S, a scaled-down, more affordable version of the Quest 3. .
The most interesting aspect of these games is the variety of genres they cover. So, here's a list of ten upcoming VR games plus an additional mention of a VR game for a very popular series that is being modified to allow those who can't or don't do VR to be able to play the game in 2D. .
***Last minute addition – Hitman World of Assassination – PSVR 2***
In Sony's latest State of Play on September 24, 2024, they surprised PSVR 2 owners with the unexpected announcement of Hitman – World of Assassination (WOA) coming to PSVR 2. And it's coming in December! This is a total surprise since it was kept totally secret before the show. The WOA game includes all Hitman levels 1 – 3. Fingers crossed this is better than the recently released game for Quest 3.
1) Batman Arkham Shadows – Meta 3 and 3S – October 24
I'm Batman! It's been a long time since the last Arkham Batman game, but fear not Batfreaks. The caped crusader will return in a new Arkham game this October. That's the good news for VR gamers. Not so good for players who only play pancakes. Not all virtual reality players are happy either. Batman: Arkham Shadows will only be available for Quest 3 and 3S. A new Arkham game is yet to come and early rumors say that the game is very good.
2) Wanderer: Fragments of Fate – All VR platforms – October 30, 2024
The original Wanderer made a huge splash with graphics that rivaled The Red Matter games. More importantly, both games also offer excellent stories and gameplay. Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate is a new version of the game that allows creators to realize their full vision thanks to the advancement of hardware for PC and PS5.
3) Vendetta forever – PSVR 2 and Quest – 2024
It's hard to believe it took developers this long to capitalize on the gameplay mechanics of the seminal VR shooter, Superhot. Linking enemy movement to the players, Matrix Bullet Time style, allows for some very inventive scenarios for the player to figure out how to improve levels. Vendetta Forever changes the mechanics and makes enemies move when you stop moving. The game has quick-run level challenges and a leaderboard to show how you compare to your friends and the world.
4) Arizona Sunshine Remake – All VR Platforms – October 20, 2024
The original Arizona Sunshine is six years old, making it old in terms of VR games. The original game launches with an extensive revamp using all the tips and technology the developers learned while creating Arizona Sunshine 2, the sequel to the first game. You can look forward to replaying the Arizona Sunshine campaign in a gloriously updated version.
5) Metal Hellslinger: VR – Steam and PSVR 2 – October 3, 2024
Think Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in VR, but based on a heavy metal music beat. You play as a demon out for revenge and will hack, slash, shoot and maul various demons and boss demons, all to a heavy metal beat featuring some heavy hitters like songwriting duo Two Feathers with thunderous original music, featuring vocals from metal icons such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) and more!
