I first tried the Razer Wolverine a couple of years ago and fell in love with the brand's touch-sensitive action buttons. These slick, crisp, one-click front controls offered speed and satisfaction that traditional membrane options couldn't dream of. Then I looked at the price, $249.99, and knew these clickers were a distant future for me.
However, I did not abandon my dreams of those clickers under my thumb and soon found an alternative. The EasySMX X10 is just $49.99 / £40.99 (available on Amazon) and still includes those snappy face buttons. They're not as sharp as Razer's implementation, but they're fast, clean, and incredibly tactile in everyday use.
It's a fantastic value for a $50 wireless controller with 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connections and a dedicated Nintendo Switch mode to boot. Not only that, but you'll also get Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, as well as interchangeable faceplates for different design options.
Should you buy the EasySMX X10?
I first received the EasySMX X10 at the beginning of the year and it has been my PC and Nintendo Switch controller ever since. I originally chose it to use with my Asus ROG Ally when I connect it to a TV, but its versatility keeps it jumping between devices today. It offers everything you need for a slick experience across a variety of platforms and does it all with a powerful wireless connection and a low price.
It feels more luxurious than the price might suggest, with a sturdy heft in your hands that sets it apart from cheaper plastic in similarly priced options. The Xbox-style controls may trip you up if you only use this gamepad on the Nintendo Switch, but it makes it easily compatible with Windows systems. Two additional back buttons can be programmed on the fly with your own macros, and while it's a little easy to accidentally press them outside of the game, they feel fantastic when used regularly. I was particularly impressed to find full rumble support on this gamepad as well, a feature usually omitted from this cheaper stand.
There is a caveat to all of this. The EasySMX X10 does not work as fast as more competitive models. While the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro and the newer V3 Pro can communicate with your PC faster for ranked matches, the EasySMX is more for casual racing. Still, you'd have to be at the top of your game to spot a problem here; The vast majority of players will find that everything runs smoothly and smoothly. You'd only notice a difference if you compared the X10 to the best PC controllers on the market, and you'd be paying a significant premium for the pleasure. If you're looking for an out-of-the-box controller but hate the feel of mushy face buttons, these are the controls for you.
